I began my love for photography 10 years ago shooting in the ocean, my ultimate subject. I've found creative ways to combine my love for the ocean and portrait photography by creating surf inspired imagery and classic natural beach portraits.
Through my years as a professional photographer, photographing couples, fellow ocean lovers, meeting new people and opening my horizons has always been the most fun, natural, and joyful part of my career.

From luxury weddings to sunrise beach elopements, Fiona loves its all. She has been behind the camera for over 10 years now, nailing down her journalistic and timeless style through genuine and candid moments. She photographed her first wedding at the age of 16 and has since worked with couples and individuals all over the world. Her roots and accomplishments in surf and water photography gives her an eye that is outside your everyday 'wedding photographer'. Fiona loves to approach weddings in her own unique way for couples looking for something truly authentic to them and their way of life.
My Photo Story.
A native of the east coast, Fiona Mullen has a love for the blistery winters of the Northeast, the warmth of the south, and the tropics of Hawaii. She sees life from a fresh perspective – from behind the lens and completely immersed in the ocean. Wintertime on the Northeast coastline is where her photographer eye was born. The blistery nor'easters and snowstorms never draw crowds to the beach, but for Fiona, the waves, light and composition are perfect. She peels on her five millimeter wetsuit, booties and gloves, walks across the snow covered sand dunes and swims out through the near freezing waves with her camera in hand.
For ten years, she has been photographing and publishing these scenes. She has accrued a number of international awards and is recognized across the the surf world for her eye and technical skills. These skills and her hunger to explore have lead her around the world; Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Hawaii, California, British Columbia, the Caribbean, Iceland and beyond. She graduated in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Public Relations and Journalism from Monmouth University.
Fiona hopes to continue to make her mark in the world by combining her professional drive and creative flair with her ever growing photography business. Photographing adventurous, fun loving couples and individuals on the east coast and around the world.
A few words from Fiona...
Hi 👋 I’m Fiona, and I have loved to be behind the camera since I could walk ( at 2 years old begging to see the camera from my parents). I started to pursue photography heavily by the time I was in high school, starting with experimenting in the darkroom, and photographing friends, the ocean, and landscapes whenever I got the chance. I even had the opportunity to photograph my first wedding in NYC at 16. I fell deeply in love with surf photography in my favorite coastal town of Newport, RI. I began swimming with my camera in the ocean all year round on the best swells here in New Jersey (snowy nor’easters were my fav). This passion has brought me all over the world during my college years photographing the worlds best waves, telling stories through photos of surfers and individuals (more work on @fionakatephoto). Intertwined in these years of surf photography I also found joy in telling love stories as well, learning from various luxury and fine art wedding photographers along the east coast, Canada, and Hawaii. Now my photography journey has transitioned into a full-time wedding, portrait, and brand photography business. When not planning my next wedding or shoot I love to travel, surf with friends at home, power walks along the boardwalk, pilates, meditation, coffee shops, fitness, hiking, road trips, and visiting my family in Florida and Hawaii…
A huge part of what I love about what I do is meeting likeminded people and incredible couples through their wedding journey.

New York Women's Surf Film Festival
In August 2018, Fiona was the featured artist for the film festival in Montauk, New York. Her exhibit, "Hemispheres" was a tribute to women surfers around the world. Days after arriving back from a winter spent in Australia, Fiona had fresh new work to exhibit from both hemispheres.
